Peculiar Panoramas (gallery in progress)

As far back as my assisting days in the 80’s, I’ve done panoramas. For location scouting, I’d shoot a polaroid of a possible vantage point for a scene and then extend the scene left and right with additional Polaroids—then I’d tape the ‘roids’ together to show 360 degrees around the camera’s position, making note of the compass directions if outdoors. The purpose was to give my client a general idea of how much space there would be around the camera to place lights, crew, store gear, access electric outlets, etc.

That exercise extended to personal work—the Fuji 6X17 used for the photo of artist Laura Alexander in her studio, was my dream camera. Around 2015 I bought my little Sony RX100 that could shoot panoramas by stitching a scene digitally as the camera panned. And that led to my current panorama-camera of choice, an Android phone. Most of my cameras have a pano mode. I like my Android the best.
